Overview

The famous Kandui Surf Resort is a unique beach front resort surrounded by palm trees, lagoons and white sandy beaches and overlooking two of the most picturesque islands in the Mentawais. The all-inclusive package offers 10 or 11 nights of accommodation in traditionally built "umas" with thatched roofs and is designed for 18 people maximum per trip date. The spacious and comfortable 'umas' are directly at the beachfront with great sea and surf views.

Kandui's restaurant and bar are the center piece of the resort and serve tasty food in a beautiful setting. Luxury canoes or the 39' Catamaran will take surfers to the best waves in the area.

Location

The Kandui Resort is located on the Karangmajet Island just South of Siberut Island. Siberut is the main island of the Mentawaii Islands which lies about 90 km off the Sumatran mainland. The islands are very wild and unspoilt, still inhabited by tribes living their traditional lifestyle away from the Western civilisation.

The island's position is ideal due to its consistent South West Swell. The Island Karangmajet holds a few breaks including Four Bobs which peels into the lagoon and there are many other great waves around which can be reached by boat in a short time.

The water temperature is warm all year around and the climate is tropical, hot and humid with temperatures ranging from 21 - 32 degrees Celsius (70 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit).

The Surf

Guests of the Kandui Resort have access to 15 different surf breaks and will enjoy the most consistent and best quality waves of the world. There will be waves for everyone and for all levels. Best time to surf in the area is during the dry season between late March and early November.

4 Bobs: Short and playful right-hander located directly in front of Kandui Resort.
A Frames: One of the most consistent lefts in the Mentawai Islands, only a 5 min dinghy ride away.
Bankvaults: Thick and barreling right, which requires a 15 min luxury canoe ride.
Beng Beng: Fun left for all levels on 30 min from the resort with the canoe.
Burgerworld: Consistent wave and last alternative when it is flat everywhere else. Access to the break requires a 30+ min luxury canoe ride.
E-Bay: Fast and barreling left on a 30 min canoe ride from the resort.
Hideaways: Occasionally heavy left near the Playgrounds region. Access to the break requires a 10 min luxury canoe ride.
Iceland: Sizable left that is known as one of the "big wave" spots in the Mentawais on 45 min to one hour away.
Kandui: Fastest, down the line, left-hand barrels in the world on only a 5 min luxury canoe ride or 10 min dinghy ride.
Karangbat Left: The 2nd closest wave to the resort, a 2 min tender ride at most.
Nipussi: High-performance right wave, situated inside a reef-laden cove on a 15 min canoe ride.
Pitstops: High performance wave that requires a 30 min canoe ride.
Rifles: Longest and most perfect wave on a 5 min canoe or 10 min dinghy ride.
Scarecrows: Telescopes' big brother, a little more forceful, slightly bigger and in general a little less refined. One hour to head over to Scarecrows.
Telescopes: Remarkably long left. It takes about one hour in the luxury speed canoe.

Accommodation

Kandui Resort offers accommodation in 8 beach front umas for 18 people maximum. These are thatched houses built in the traditional Mentawaïan style by local craftsmen. The umas are made out of wood and have hand-woven vaulted ceilings. Hand-sanded hardwood flooring and custom designed wooden furniture give them a very cosy feeling. They are spacious and comfortable with great views of the waves, ocean and the islands next to the resort.

Each unit has fans and airconditioning, wifi and an ipod docking station for your music. The sleeping area has a queen size bed with nets and rattan furniture. Each uma is equipped with a fridge with cold drinks and has a separate spacious and tiled bathroom with shower.
Towels are provided, you only need to bring your own beach towels.

There is a phone connection to the reception, housekeeping, restaurant, room service and from room to room.

Each uma has sufficient storage space for clothing and toiletries. Adaptors are availabe (Indonesian plugs have 220 V). Surfboard storage is possible at an area outside of the uma.

One uma is especially designed for groups of 3 or 6 people featuring a living room, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms on the edge of an ancient forest.

The Kandui Restaurant & Bar is situated in the center of the resort and has a special design and the perfect setting for your evening drinks or dinners. The chef creates delicious dishes every day with fresh fish caught by the local fishermen.

Boats

There are three luxury canoes and two tenders to shuttle guests around the resort and to the surf.

Two of the luxury canoes have 2 x 40 hp engines and can take up to 8 surfers comfortably. The largest dug out luxury canoe with 3 x 40 hp engines is 37 feet long and can take up to 10 people. All canoes have the necessary safety and communication equipment in case of emergencies.

The 39' Catamaran with 2 x 250 hp engines is perfect to take the guests for cruising all day, for surfing or fishing.

A 2009 Yamaha Waverunner VX700 can be rented for $150/day plus fuel by guests or for media trips. It is not suitable for town-in though
