Overview

Location

Macaronis Resort is located on the island Siniai, next to the main island North Pagai, about 120 nautical miles South West of Padang.

Macaronis Resort offers a unique experience for surfers and their companions, located right next to 'Macas', one of the worlds great surf breaks. Macaronis Resort is located centrally between Lances and Thunders surfing regions, meaning close access to a wide range of other quality left and right hand reef breaks accessible on Indies Explorer.

Alternatively, closer by waves such as Silabu Left, Macas Right, Greenbush and Bat Cave are accessible by speedboat.

The Surf

MACARONIS - 5 min speedboat ride from Macaronis Resort
Macaronis, more commonly referred to as 'Macas', is a perfectly shaped mechanical left-hand barrel that has been described by many as being the most high performance wave in existence.

Maca's Right is a long hot doggers wave that needs northerly winds and a medium to high tide to be working. The outside section is sometimes referred to as 'KFC's', while the inside ledge has been dubbed 'Pizza Huts'.

BAT CAVE - 40 min north from the resort via speedboat
Another option for those seeking a long mellow right hand wave is the spot called Bat Cave. Bat Caves is a great alrounder that has fun long waves and is equally as appealing for non-surfers to take in the spectacular surroundings and have a picnic on the deserted beach

GREENBUSH - 40 min south from Macas Resort via speedboat
A reasonably new discovery and a very hollow left hander. You really have to pick the right waves to paddle for, but when you do pick a good one, this is definitely a wave you'll remember.

SILABU LEFT - 10 min north from the resort via speedboat
Silabu Left sometimes becomes a favorite for guests at the resort that prefer fun uncrowded waves rather than competing for waves at Macaronis.

Accommodation

Each self contained villa includes an up-stairs loft and accommodates up to 4 guests with 2 split air conditioning systems (one on each level), central fan cooling, a two person spa bath, hot shower, cold shower (on the deck), in-house phone, Sat TV, in house movies and live surf channel, meaning that you don't even have to get out of bed to check the surf !

The interior of each villa is tastefully decorated with oriental furniture and lined with local hardwood and French doors lead to a spacious balcony overlooking the spectacular lagoon. One of the other major attractions of relaxing on the balcony of an evening is viewing the marine life that comes alive at night under the spotlights from the front of each villa. You can see many species of fish, small octopus, squid and mud crab.

A staircase leading from the balcony into the lagoon allows guests to swim directly from their veranda or be picked up or dropped off from a days surfing.

The open plan design allows guests a choice of opening doors and windows to enjoy natural ventilation and fan cooling or closed windows and doors for air-conditioning comfort to suite the individual needs of each guest.

Facilities

* Wireless Hot Spot Internet (up to 512 kbps), also offering VoIP phone service.
* Each villa offers its own safety deposit box and administration offers additional safety deposit boxes, Money changing service and other tourist information.
* A 24 hour Medical Clinic to be operated by Revive Indonesia - already constructed, to be properly set up in year 2009. A qualified doctor will treat guests for any basic injuries or illnesses, as well as undertaking various humanitarian projects in the surrounding villages.
* The Bar and Restaurant, located on the first floor of the entertainment complex, offers tapped Bintang draft beer, a variety of mixed drinks and cocktails.
* A Big Screen TV (2m x 2m) in the bar and restaurant provides guests the opportunity to watch international sports and news live as well as showing live surf footage of Macaronis plus a variety of DVD movies and music.

Activities

There is lots to do and enjoy at Macaronis Resort apart from surfing....

* Traditional deep tissue massages are available, great after a long day of surfing.

* Fishing tackle and diving equipment is available for those who wish to head off for a fishing or diving excursion (our chefs will prepare your catch at no extra charge).

* A Guided Tour of Silabu and Betamonga Villages offering an opportunity to meet and trade with the locals and gain an appreciation of their culture.

* Other Activities at Macaronis Resort include island exploring, game fishing and snorkeling. Guests may also choose to rent a motorbike and ride through the various off-road tracks found on North Pagai Island and visit various other remote villages.

Charter

The 'Laut India' (meaning 'Indian Ocean'), more commonly known as 'Indies Explorer, is a legendary Sulawesi built Phinisi Schooner 115 feet in length and built from solid Indonesian iron wood. Indies Explorer was built in South Sulawesi in 1998, renovated inside and out in Feburary 2008, specifically for long-range surf exploration, traveling at a speed of 8 knots. Three split air-conditioners in the downstairs hallway cool the cabins, or guests can open the brass port holes to let in some breeze while you sleep.

The main hub of the Indies Explorer is a modern open galley which leads onto a spacious aft deck. There is a private saloon with TV and DVD / CD player and an extensive book library.

13 private cabins (4 double / 5 twin and 4 triple) each with a brass opening port hole and skylight with two showers and two toilets means that the spacious Indies Explorer is the perfect boat for large groups and can accommodate couples.

The boat also has an aluminum tender, game fishing tackle, snorkelling gear and spear fishing gear.

Speed Boats

- Macaronis Resort speedboats include two 12 meter longboats powered by 40 hp and 15 Hp engines that are available for surf transfers to nearby breaks such as Macaronis Left, Macaronis Right, Silabu Left, Green Bush and Bat Cave.

Traditionally carved longboats travel at speeds of 15 - 20 knots. These traditional heavy duty dug-outs have proven to perform exceptionally well in local conditions, and are set up with a sun canopy and comfortable seating arrangements.

Also ideal for visiting remote villages up winding rivers and trawling to catch Mahi Mahi, Spanish Mackeral, Coral Trout, Groper and Great Trevally (the GT).

- A 5m aluminum dinghy powered by a 15 Hp yamaha engine and several rubber duckies are also used for transfering guests to and from the surrounding breaks and for fishing at nearby Silabu Island....

- They have recently purchased a 6.8m Aluminum boat that will be ideal for heading around to Greenbush, up to Batcave and for fishing trips.

HOLLOW TREE'S (HT's)
Hollow Trees, more commonly known as 'HT's' (or Lances Right) is a fast, perfect, barreling right-hander. It takes experience and local wave knowledge to know where to sit in the line-up and anticipate the right waves to paddle for.
LANCES LEFT
Lances Left is a long, magnificent lefthander that is regarded as one of the most consistent and user-friendly breaks in the Mentawai's.
BINTANGS
Bintangs is a short right located on the northern side of the bay near Lances left. This is one of the few breaks that is suited to northerly winds, and on a decent swell provides a short and intense barrel.
RAGS LEFT
Rag's Left is a long barreling wave that turns on during large southwest swells. Rags Left is very dependant on swell direction, tide and wind, but when all of these factors fall into place, you could find yourself and just a few of your friends pulling into massive caverns.
RAGS RIGHT
At high tide and on the right swell, Rag's Right can offer perhaps some of the thickest, hollowest tubes in the Mentawai's.
THUNDERS
Thunders is one of the most consistent breaks in the Mentawai's and is surfable on all tides. In smaller south swells the top section of the reef can turn on offering long hollow barrels.
