Location

Florianopolis, the Island where the surf accommodation & camp is located, is the capital of the state of Santa Catarina and has a landscape sprinkled with lakes, sand dunes, forests and small islands all along the coast. The inviting waves on beaches such as Joaquina and Praia Mole have encouraged successive national and international surfing championships such as the WCT (south america´s only WCT pro surf event) used to be hold here.

Florianopolis is definitely the paradise for surfing, kite surfing, windsurfing, sailing and other radical sports and they are here to bring you the best of this blessed island.

The Surf

Floripa, as the city is known locally is widely recognized as the surf capital of Brazil and is renowned for year-round consistent swell, diversity of breaks and crystal clear warm water. Floripa has waves that cater to all surf abilities, from first time surfers to the most experienced and hardcore big wave riders.

Florianopolis is a very privileged city for surfing since it receives swells from the main quadrants, east and south. It is possible to surf almost every day with waves going from 2 to 10 feet (0.5 to 3 meters) in all four seasons of the year. Conditions vary depending on swell, wind direction and intensity as well as the break's bottom.

The BSA team knows when and where the best conditions can be found. No matter if you are a beginner or an expert in the sport, they will take care of everything to ensure that you have an unforgettable surf experience in Brazil.

In about one hour it is possible to check the surf in more than twenty different breaks. Most of them are beach breaks and a few point breaks which make surfing around the island virtually safe. Check always with their local guide and have fun!

Accommodation

Their main accommodation is located just a few steps of Meio da Joaquina Beach and is composed by three private 2 bedroom houses (single or double bed) equiped with full kitchen facilities, private bathrooms, TV, DVD- player with lots of surf DVD's and movies, Stereo and High Speed Internet connection, green area, balcony and barbecue place.

Other lodging locations such as Praia Mole and Barra da Lagoa can be arranged upon request.

CULTURE
Florianopolis was founded in 1700 and settled fifty years later by immigrants from the Portuguese mid-Atlantic islands of the Azores. Since then, itsgradually developed from being a sleepy provincial backwater into a sleepy state capital.Today the city thrives as an administrative, commercial and tourist centre, while therelaxed, small-town atmosphere provides a total contrast to the excitement of Sao Paulo or Rio.

CUISINE
The cuisine of the island of Florianopolis has been greatly influenced by its past and present cultures.Seafood is the city's specialty.Another characteristic of Florianopolis are the simple and cozy restaurants, close to the beaches and maintained by the fishermen. The city also has more sophisticated restaurants and fast food places, which serveinternational dishes, burgers, pizzas, sushi and so on.Good quality meals will range from U$ 5 to U$ 30 (top restaurants). Seafood is very cheap and mostly appreciated in most of the coastal cities and in Florianopolis you can get a dozen of oysters for about U$ 3. Thelegal age for purchasing and consuming alcoholic beverages is 18, and a beer costs about U$ 1.5 , and a soda or juice about U$ 1.

CLOTHES
Winter time (June to August):Bring warm clothes such as pullovers, a rain coat, sweaters and pants to use during the mornings and the coldest days when the temperatures sometimes can get as low as 10ºC (50ºF) or lower.

Summer (from November to February): you shouldbring only light clothes, but a rain coat can be useful for the tropical rains that fall in this time of year. Don' forgetsunscreen since the sun can get very intense in this time of the year.

HEALTH
Brazil has anexcellent network of private hospitals and clinics in the major cities. Private medical assistance can be more expensive, butBrazil has a public health service that will look after foreign visitors in an emergency.Medical Insurance is recomended for all visitors.

SAFETY
Brazil is no more dangerous than anywhere in Europe or North America andviolent crimes against tourists or foreign visitors are extremely rare. Brazil is alsopolitically stable with no natural enemies and no terrorist activities.
