Location

Waidroka Bay Resort is located on the main island of Viti levu, right on the famous Coral Coast between Sigatoka and Pacific Harbour (just 20 minutes drive from Pacific Harbour and 1 hour past Sigatoka towards Pacific Harbour)

ABOUT FIJI

Firewalking FIJI consists of 18,376 square km of land and includes approximately 330 islands of which around 100 are inhabited. The largest island and population centre is Viti Levu, followed by Vanua Levu. It is located north of New Zealand and northwest of Australia. The four largest islands, Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Kadavu are surronded by coral reefs and have mountains located in the central region of each island which cover a large portion of the land mass.

CLIMATE

Fiji has a tropical oceanic climate. The rainy season, from November to April coincides with the hot and humid months and the cooler months are from May to October. Humidity tends to be higher in the south and east and much less in the west and north. Tempertures in January in Suva can be min - max temp: 23 - 30 degrees C or 74-86 degrees F and in July: min - max temp:20-26 degrees C or 68-79 degrees F.

The Surf

Surfing in Fiji is world class and you can surf all year round. Utilizing the pacific swells which break on the various reefs right outside the resort presents a variety of un-crowded waves.

The Trip to World-Famous Frigates Passage takes approx 45 minutes and local spots are only 5 to 10 minutes from the resort. Traveling in comfort aboard the Fiji Explorer, a 30 foot catamaran style boat with a full roof, padded seats and toilet, or it might be Wave-Rider or the Wave Hunter that heads out, all twin engine boats with GPS, VHF, boat captain and surf-guide. Which ever the boat, it remains with you while you enjoy the world class waves at some of the best surf breaks in the world. Between sets you can relax in the shaded comfort of the boat and enjoy lunch, snacks, drinks and stories from your Fijian guide. Surfing in Fiji with Waidroka Bay Resort offers an incredible experience for beginners, intermediate and mostly experienced surfers.

Waidroka's SURF BREAKS:

Frigates (left): World Class and one of the best surf breaks in Fiji ( some say one of the best lefts in the world)! Frigate's is a powerful, fast and consistent hollow left. Big barrels, long rides and works at all tides! Most surfers that had a few sessions at Frigates will come back to Fiji to surf Frigates again and again. Longest ride 150 m plus with a relatively easy take-off, with various sections, down to the last inside section with a hollow barrel (drop out at low tide since it gets very shallow). An epic and one of the most fun waves in the Pacific! Boat trip to Frigates takes about 45 minutes with a surf session of approx. 4 hours. If you get hungry order a lunch pack which will give you that energy for a great surf session.

Pipe(left): We also call it Teahupoo! Peaky Lefthander. Pure Barrels. Experienced Surfers. mid- to high- tide break. One of the best surf spots in Fiji for body-boarders. With bigger swells Pipe becomes a challenge and is a late take-off, with a drop straight into a barrel (best to  rail it ). It can be approximately 50 m of pure fast barrel. Once you have made the barrels at Pipe any other wave becomes easy.

Serua Rights: Great long right hander. Mellow take off going into hollow inside section. On medium days this is one of the longest rights surfing in Fiji offers. Works at all tides. Waves begins to break on outer reef and peels into deep water. Keep cutting way back inside and stay in the foam. Stay with it! Your ride has not finished yet. As you head in towards the inside reef (quite shallow) a full reform/peak will start coming straight at you from down the line. Back door it! Where the boat parks is perfect for barrel photo's. Drop out after that since it becomes shallow.

Resorts (left): Fun lefthander. Good surf break for beginners and long boards. Allows surfing at all tides. Resorts can get real big sets with good swell and is a great take-off in deeper water, with a pyramid type section which barrels and is fun to get through, after which you have to cut back immediately to stay on the wave. A fun wave!

420's (left): Fun left which works only some times, right opposite Serua. Peaky take-off.

Accommodation

SUPERIOR DELUXE OCEAN FRONT ROOMS
Located with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean, with their own little gardens, separate bathrooms, two bedrooms one master with queen-size and one full-size bed in the second room, a sofa sitting corner with large coffee table,walk in closet, table and chairs, ceiling fan and large decks.

DELUXE OCEAN FRONT ROOMS
Located with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean, with their own little gardens, on-suite bathrooms, two beds - one queen-size and one full-size (variety of bed constellations available on request), table and chairs, ceiling fan and large decks with sitting corner and 'hammock chair'.

PANORAMIC OCEANVIEW ROOMS
Located with magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and our private lagoon from a hilltop above the Resort, with on-suite bathrooms, one bedroom with queen-size double bed and one full-size single bed (different set-ups available on request), table and chairs, ceiling fan and a large veranda. The Panoramic Ocean-View Rooms are located in a completely new complex on the hill above the resort and enjoy the best views of the resort, looking over the sea and seeing as far as the islands in the distance. The views are exceptional especially at sun-rise and sun-set.

The Boats

Waidroka Bay Resort owns and operates a fleet of boats to choose from for various purposes. All of our boats are continuously looked after and maintained to a high standard to ensure our guests safety. Our boat drivers are all local and know the reefs like their own pocket, as well as are trained to operate boats for this purpose. Our 'Surf-Boats' are listed below and on any surf trip will stay with the surfers surfing the various breaks. The boats will be moored in the channel and boat drivers will remain on the boat at all times to ensure saftey, as well as serve as a haven for the surfers wanting to rest, have a drink or eat their lunch.

All boats always go out with VHF and/or back-up mobile phone (nowadays there is coverage even at Frigates Passage and many of our guests send back immediate surf pictures straight from the boat). Long rides outside the outer reef and especially to Frigates are always done only with twin engine boats. Medical kits are always onboard.

"YAMMY" 23 foot fiberglass Yamaha boat with 40 horse power single motor. The "YAMMY" is our local reef boat and has a low draught, is simple to use for quick sessions to any one of our local breaks. She can handle the outside reef very well with a V-Hull shape and is great for quick trips anywhere.

"WAVE HUNTER" 29 foot fiberglass Yamaha boat with two 60 horse power motors. The "WAVE HUNTER" has a roof top , on-board VHF and stereo. She will go with larger groups to our local breaks as well as out to Frigates and is as fast and comfortable as any of our larger boats.

"WAVE RIDER" 30 foot aluminum monohull with two 90 horse power motors. The "WAVE RIDER" is our larger Frigates work horse and spends most of her time taking our guests to Frigates and back. She has a roof top, onboard VHF and stereo. The Wave Rider has done Frigates rides in calm and glassy waters within 25 minutes and is a lot of fun, with much comfort.

"FIJI EXPLORER" 30 foot aluminum catamaran with two 200 horse power motors. The "FIJI EXPLORER" is our largest boat and will take out large groups only, mostly when there are larger parties and sometimes when both surfers and divers want to share the most incredible combination of fun: Surfing - Diving - Surfing... an absolute blast. She is our fastest boat and has a hard roof top which is great for storing surfboards. Onbord VHF, GPS and stereo.
