LOCATION

The island of Baleal is located along the Peniche peninsula. No less than 9 surfspots are on walking distance from the Surfcastle beachhouses.

Surfing in Baleal started around fifty years ago. The first surfers were foreigners from countries which had long established surf cultures like Australia or America.

The aloha spirit is deeply felt within everybody. Local people are totally used to see boys and girls with boards everywhere.

SURFSPOTS

The mild weather and the excellent surfing conditions all year round makes the coastline to be called the “California of Europe”.

The main reason for the positive energy all year round is that you can Surf in Baleal with offshore conditions almost everyday.

Almagreira is a beach with multiple surf peaks, sand bars and mixed spots with rocks / sand. It works best with south and east winds and all swell directions.

Lagido is a shallow reef break that provides powerful lefts and mellow rights. It works best with south winds and swell from the north.

Praia do Baleal is a beach with multiple surf peaks. Mixed spots with rocks and sand are ideal for intermediate surfers. I works best with south winds and swell from the north.

Cantinho da baia is sand bar that provides long lefts and rights. It’s a very consistent spot, ideal for beginners and intermediate surfers. It works best with north and east winds and swell from the west to north.

Meio da baia is a very long beach with multiple sandbars. Perfect waves without crowds just a ten minute walk away from Surfcastle. It works best with east and south winds and all swell directions.

Peniche Norte is a spot with multiple reef breaks. It works best with west and north winds and small swells. This area is considered dangerous for inexperienced surfers. Access is difficult and the reefs are packed with sea urchins.

Molhe Leste is a tubular right wave that breaks close to a pier, which works best with northeast winds and swell coming in from the north and west. This wave works when Supertubos is too big.

Supertubos is the world famous break known for its perfectly tubular waves. This spot is famous for its lefts but also provides epic rights. It’s a very difficult and powerful wave which works best with northeast winds and southwest swells. Supertubos suits experienced surfers and was acknowledged by Surfer Mag as being one of the best waves in the world.

ConsolaÃ§Ã¤o is a rocky bay with long rights and works best with north and east winds and swells from south and west. The wave has a smooth beginning but usually ends with a powerful inside section. The access is difficult and some of the reefs are covered with sea urchins.

The Big house has wonderful rooms located on the first floor of the house.Â Currently there are 3 double rooms and 2 twin rooms with shared bathrooms (most of them have a possibility for an extra bed) and the layout of the rooms can be changed according to the needs of the guests.

The ground floor of the big house has a big dining room, a computer room, a kitchen and toilet.

All guests staying in the Surfcastle have access to the ground floor of the big house and all surrounding areas!

The small house is also located on the Surfcastle property and has 1 double room and 2 twin rooms with shared bathroom. If necessary, the layout of the rooms can be changed and it’s possible to rent the whole of Casa da Guarda.

The small house has a living room with fire place (great for the Winter), a front terrace, a kitchen and toilet!

It’s ideal for families and small groups ( 6 or 7 people ) to rent the small house entirely !

Surf Castle takes into account both physical and technical characteristics of each surfer who comes to our academy. There is a communal kitchen and lounge area and every room is en-suite with a balcony and beautiful views. There is 1 separate selfcatering flatlet that sleeps 2 also.

The African Perfection selfcatering house is newly renovated and very luxury.
