First time I took out my old VX1000, I was lucky enough to get a good sequence from Derek Hynd riding his finless surfboard at magic Jeffreys Bay… It was Bruce Gold who told me all about Derek and after some time we connected in the line-up at point. A few days later we ended up checking the surf from our garden flat in J-Bay overlooking his iconic beach house at supertubes … we talked about surfing, boards, life and how to live it to the fullest. I gave him the original DV tapes, as he told me Jack McCoy might use the sequence in his 2010 movie … He complimented me on our renovation project at surf view, tuned me into smaller boards and left the building … leaving us behind with a good vibe and a big smile …
