Overview

Location

Costa Rica Surf Charters is based out of Playa Hermosa in the northern Pacific region of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, just 20 minutes from Liberia International Airport (not to be confused with the Playa Hermosa near Jaco on the Central Coast).

Their surf charters focus on the remote breaks of Northwest Costa Rica including Witch's Rock & Ollie's Point, the entire Nicoya Peninsula from Playa Grande to Mal Pais and Southern Pacific Nicaragua.

The Surf

COSTA RICA DESTINATIONS
Witch's Rock (Playa Naranjo): One of the best breaks in the country, with consistent off-shore winds from December to March. This sand-bottom spot serves up both lefts and rights suitable for all types of surfers.
Ollie's Point (Potrero Grande): A right point break with very fast and hollow waves that will make any regular footer feel that they have found their happy place.

NICARAGUA DESTINATIONS
Maderas is a sand-bottom beach break with both lefts and rights that are forgiving for intermediate surfers.
Manzanillo (The Left") is a left point with plenty of fun for everyone.
Panga Drops (the Reef Plenty) will hold on a large swell, producing outstanding lefts and rights.
Popoyo's left-hand reef break will produce adrenaline in even the most seasoned surfers.
Santana's is an opportunity-filled beach break with lefts and rights for all.

THE BEST MONTHS TO SURF COSTA RICA & NICARAGUA

There is good surf virtually year-round; you just need to know what part of the country to go to during which months!
- April and Aug historically offer bigger surf on both Costa Rica and Nicaragua's Pacific coastlines
- Sept and Oct usually still have good southern swells, but the wind direction can be less consistently offshore and those are also the two most rainy months of the year. (We've often have several sunny days in a row too though)
- Nov usually enjoys some strong south swells as well, and the return of the consistent offshore winds can make this an especially good month.
- Dec through Febr usually offer excellent surf . Size depends on the spot, but conditions are mostly very clean and fun at breaks like Witch's and Ollie's.
- Nicaragua has near gale-force winds between December and March, so you're better off sticking with the Nicoya Peninsula or Witch's & Ollie's during those months.
- On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, December through March are the best months for surf, with a short mid-season in June and July.

Accommodation

The Aquadesiac is equipped with 3 state-rooms (sleeping 6 people in total), 2 bathrooms outfitted with showers and a full kitchen.

Enjoy relaxing @ the 2 barbeques, the salon, the lower pilothouse or inside lounge area. The topside consists of a spacious sundeck complete with cushioned bench-style seats in the shade of the upper pilothouse.

ENJOY A LIVE-ABOARD SURF CHARTER TRIP

Imagine waking up on the Aquadesiac and being the first in the water at Witch's Rock or Ollie's Point for an uncrowded 2-3 hour dawn patrol session before the panga fleet arrives to deposit 20 or more other surfers in the lineup. After a couple of hours of crowd-free surf, enjoy an ice-cold Imperial with a delicious meal while you contemplate your next session from the comfort of your charter boat, deciding whether to join in the fray or just relax until the pangas motor back to shore around 3:00, leaving you and your friends to have the waves to yourselves once again until nightfall !

SURF CHARTER PACKAGES LIVE ONBOARD

INCLUSIVE
All days and nights on board the Aquadesiac, meals, snacks, juice and bottled water. Use of on-board equipment, including snorkeling and fishing gear. Charters of 4 days or more include Group Airport Transfers to and from Liberia Airport (on charter departure and return dates only).

EXCLUSIVE
10% Fuel Surcharge Fee on all day and overnight charters, national park tickets for each day at Witch's / Ollie's: $15 per person, per day. Airport transfers from/to LIR (for charters of less than 4 days): $40 each way. Alcoholic beverages: Beer, Wine and Cocktails $2.00 each (advance notice required). Sodas are available for $1.00 each (please give advance notice of your preferences)
- Nicaragua Charters Only: immigration facilitation fees for Saturday or Sunday arrival or departure: $50 per person for each applicable day

NUMBER OF PASSENGERS:
All charters have a 4 passenger minimum (or equivalent rate) to guarantee departure, but they will combine smaller groups to meet this requirement. Maximum of 6 passengers in cabins.

EXTRA'S (rates on request):

Day Trips

Enjoy a relaxing boat ride, great chow and a comfortable "home base" on which to kick back between sessions and a memorable boat ride or a day of beachcombing or snorkeling while you surf two of Costa Rica's most famous breaks. A day charter on the Aquadesiac is the perfect way to keep everyone happy -- and together! The Aquadesiac is also available for other types of excursions, such as snorkeling and beach tours, sunset cruises, bachelor / bachelorette parties and more. The 52-foot Aquadesiac has much more deck space and seating than most sailboats, so everyone can be comfortable, even with larger groups.

The Boat

The Aquadesiac is a beautiful replica of a classic Grand Banks Trawler that was custom built by Fibroplastico SA in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1996. This 52-foot motor yacht is powered by two, 135 horsepower Cummins turbo diesel engines which give it a cruising speed of 10 to 12 knots.

Other safety features include sonar, GPS, radar, autopilot and an auto-navigation plotter to insure worry-free travel under any conditions.

The Aquadesiac meets Coast Guard standards with lifejackets, fire extinguishers, first aid equipment and is approved for 22 passengers.
