Overview

Location

The Mentawai Islands lie approximately 150 kilometres off the coast of mainland Sumatra, Indonesia. Aloita Resort & Spa is located near the Second Main Island Sipora, on the little island of Simakakang, only 10 min from Tua Pejat, the capital of the Mentawais. It is well connected with the Sumatran mainland by regular ferry and air services.

Right in their backyard only 10 minutes away are almost a dozen consistent surf spots including Telescopes, the world class lefthander which offers longer and straighter barrels than Macaronis when it is firing.

Mellower waves are also close by including a fun learners wave right at the end of Aloita Beach. There are still a few secret spots they keep to themselves though you might just find yourself surfing them when conditions are right!Their Western surfguide will ensure you are always in the right place at the right time...

The Surf

More than 70% of the waves in the Mentawais are accessible within an hour by speedboat from Aloita Resort.

Some of the waves in the Aloita zone, just to name a few...:

Telescopes- one of the jewels in the Mentawai crown and a definite fave of the Aloita crew. The take off gives you just enough time to draw a line and get under the curtain. Even when Teles is breaking at just head high it is a super fun wave and also a great beginners wave as the reef is quite deep. And the best thing about Teles is that it is the closest wave to Aloita Resort- less than 10 minutes by speedboat.

Icelands- Icelands as with most of the other waves in the zone is a left and is possibly the most 'jekyll and hyde' like wave in the Ments. When everywhere in the chain is flat you can still pull up to Icelands and get a headhigh wave with a lazy but whackable wall. With a big west swell when everyone is getting excited about Telescopes the Ice turns into a monster with barrels big enough to drive the speedboat through. 90% of the time Icelands is a mellow, easy wave situated about a mile away from Teles.

Scarecrows- Another small swell left that holds size and another of fave of the Aloita crew. Scarecrows or Frankos or Diablos as its sometimes referred to (!) has the ability to spread out a crowd with its several different take off spots. It is not a picture perfect indo reef break but shifts around depending on swell direction, size and currents.

Jaraiks- On the rare occasions when the Ments goes dead flat this fun little left is our saving grace. It is nothing more than a bend in the reef and hard to spot until you pull up right in front of it. Surfable on all tides and East - South East winds, Jaraiks actually stops working the moment there is any swell!

Accommodation

Aloita Resort is just what the Mentawais have been waiting for and offers you several beach front cottages.

7 double cottages & 1 family (or group) cottage, all fully airconditioned with outside shower and private rear courtyard. The bungalows have a full bathroom and storage space, a safe and a mini fridge for your convenience.

Enjoy relaxing on the front terrace with easy access to one kilometre of beautiful private beach.

For the guests security they now opened a path in the back of the resort that goes up to the hills to guarantee a safety place in case of a tsunami.

Activities

FISHING
Fishing as a sport in the Mentawais is still in its infancy though indications of its potential can seen in the types of fish caught by surf charter operators over the last few years. The zone around 'Setan Island' which lies in front of the resort is possibly the most abundant fishing ground in the Mentawais.

SPEARFISHING
is allowed only for free divers in limited areas. They always aim to implement a 'catch what we eat' policy and they are more than happy to have our chef prepare your catch cooked in the style you like.

DIVING
Aloita Dive Centre has been operating in the Mentawais for four years and is the only dive centre located in this amazing part of the world. While the centre has been in operation for some time, there is still plenty to explore with virgin reef plentiful a short distance from the resort.

SPA

The Aloita Spa is equipped with 2 treatment rooms backing onto an enclosed waterfall and fish pond. The sounds of water splashing over the rocks will glide you into a deep relaxation during your massage or other spa treatment...

Aloita's Spa and Massage facility is the only of its kind in the Mentawais and the guests can feel confident that they can devote their full energy to the wide array of outdoor activities, as they are prepared to help balance your systems with a full mind and body cleanse.

Their large ocean view veranda can be used as a waiting or place for yoga and meditation. It truly is a tranquil, peaceful, and therapeutic place.

Professional therapists are skilled in a wide variety of treatments.

FOOD

The buffet restaurant is specialising in a range of seafood dishes using produce from local waters and they also offer delicious Indonesian, Chinese, and Western cuisine..

There is a lounge area located alongside the restaurant to relax after your meal or have a cocktail before....

Enjoy the bar on the beach with front deck projecting over the water at high tide complete with chillout lounges, cool tunes, big screen tv and a wide range of beverages and bar-snack menu.

The Mentawai Islands can easily be reached by Overnight Ferry or Private Charter Boat. Tickets are subject to availability and reservations should be requested best at least two weeks in advance of your anticipated arrival in Padang.
